Bristol Con
Bristol con - event 7 of the book tour.
With every event that I've gone to I've learnt more with some success but this was the first one where I was invited to do a reading and part of two panels.
The first one was 'What is the role of the editor?' At these events I've met many different people, many of which are self published so it's interesting to hear their journey and views. As someone who is dyslexic, I wouldn't be confident with the story without the help of Becca and Victoria and everyone at Cranthrope Millner. Obviously I enjoy the story as it's in my head. But not as words as a pictures and scenes. When I had finished I couldn't be happier but I wasn't confident enough to let anyone read it. As a first person story it's personal and I wanted to make sure it was perfect. Only after a year of working with Cranthrope Millner and back and forth with the editing I wasn't just confident I was excited for people to read it!
In his second panel we discussed social media and it's role in promoting books. I've struggled with this as always feel like social media is a bit of an echo chamber and shouting into a void. It can feel productive relentlessly posting on social media. But how do you know your reach? Are people getting the book? Then you go to the events and put your heart and soul out there to sell a few books. It's a difficult one but again, it comes back to remembering why you started and making sure you have helpful and good people around you!
The final stop of the book tour will be at the YALC in London November 15-16th where I will also be completing a workshop about writing and being dyslexic.
